Turning off synaptics touchpad disables keyboard - Ubuntu 10.04 x64

Asked by musicatplay

When I use the hardware button at the top of my touchpad to disable it, none of the keys work on the keyboard - even when I use the same button to turn the touchpad back on. The only solution is to use the mouse to reboot the machine and upon reboot, the keyboard works again.

As for hardware, I have a HP Pavilion dv5 1007ca.
