computer freezes and can't install upgrades from ubuntu

computer freezes = I can move the mouse around but can't click on any thing
so i turn the computer off and then back on again.
I get messages from ubuntu saying there is a problem
I tried installing upgrades from ubuntu and it didn't work = it started to install I had an orange bar then
flashed acouple of times and the orange bar turned black I hit continue and got support/ubuntu then the
install page froze.
one message from ubuntu said my computer may have abug
