Mouse-wheel problem

A recent package update has suddenly enabled my mousewheel, so I can now scroll in browser windows. However, the windows start to scroll by themselves without me using the mouse or keyboard, so maybe there is a bug in the driver somewhere. My system is upto date (12.04 LTS).

For the sake of completeness, my mouse is a Logitech radio mouse -so the problem is probably something to do with signal polling. I have now tried with a traditional USB mouse, and there is no spurious scrolling.
