Cursor won't move during and after installation of 64-bit Ubuntu

Asked by Michael Henson

I have just installed Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit on my laptop (Novatech nFinity N1403 [NNB-979] ultrabook with 8gb RAM) but the cursor will not move and is just stuck in the middle of the screen. This was the same during the installation but I just used the keyboard and hoped that after installation the cursor would move but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Michael.

Are you using usb mouse? Is it a laptop? Please provide us the 'dmesg' output and also the output of the command 'lsusb' output so that we can assist you in a better way.

It is a Novatech nFinity N1403 [NNB-979] ultrabook with 8gb RAM. I am new to Linux and Ubuntu so am unsure what 'dmesg' and 'lsusb' outputs are. If I can work this out I will post them! Thanks.

I am not using a USB mouse just the touchpad on the laptop

Why did you not include the model in the initial question?
Does the system have a shortcut to enable and disable the touchpad?

If you plug a mouse in does it work or is it just touchpad?

It works when I plug a mouse in. Function+Esc are supposed to enable/disable the touchpad but this doesn't seem to do anything.

Hi,

I have the Nfinity 1401 laptop, and so far far, of the two major bugs, wifi and touchpad ive managed to get wifi running just fine. but the touchpad is a no go... i have tried the above methods without any luck what so ever... does anyone know of any other issues?

Thanks.
