Ubuntu 12.04 Mouse not working

After succesfully restoring my ubuntu in the grub menu using 'boot-repair disk' , the mouse doesn't work. I use
dell inspiron n4110 laptop . I also tried plugging usb mouse. it doesn't work. th+e mouse pointer is in the middle of the screen. keyboard works fine and i'm able to access terminal.
please Help me to restore the mouse pointer

Try:

sudo modprobe -r psmouse; sleep 5; sudo modprobe psmouse

When i type sudo modprobe -r psmouse i get this error... FATAL: could not load /lib/modules/3.2.0-29-generic/modules.dep: No such file or directory

Probably why you are getting theissue. Try runningL

sudo depmod -a

Reboot to test

Thank you this solved my mouse problem . . but it also looks like my network icon is missing. when i click network through the unity dash home , it says 'the system network services are not compatible with this version'

Thanks a lot actionparsnip (andrew-woodhead666). This has really helped me. mouse, printer and scanner were stuck, but they are now working. glad now.
