Need to disconnect and reconnect trackball at start-up.

Asked by Rob Rakis

I have a Gateway NV51B15u notebook and a wireless Logitech M570 trackball.

With 11.10 I always had the dongle plugged in to the same USB port on the side of the computer. After doing a clean install of 12.04 last night I have no use of the trackball at start-up.

If I unplug the dongle and plug it back in it works fine. If I use the other port on the same side of the computer it works as normal at start-up.

This isn't so much a bug as it's hampering my usage it's more a concern for similar issues on a desktop where it's not as easy to unplug and plug devices.

The results of "lsb_release -a; uname -a; lsmod" while the trackball is NOT registering, and the laptop touchpad enabled are:

There's no correlation between the touchpad and the trackball working, I just figured I'd point out that there may be that other thing showing an inconsistency.

When you log in, run:

sudo modprobe -r psmouse; sleep 2; sudo modprobe psmouse

Does it then work without unplugging and replugging?

No, that didn't make it work.
