USB mouse wheel has stopped scrolling up and down after upgrade to ubuntu 11.10

Asked by riyas

After upgrade to ubuntu 11.10, USB mouse wheel has stopped scrolling up and down. Xev shows no events for scroll. Parsing output from usbmon shows the scroll activity (in binary stream ie cat /dev/usbmon5 | hexdump -C
). Further checked with livecd of 10.10 and scroll function is working. Same issue is present in 11.04 and 12.04.
