problems with 11.10 upgrade

Asked by sally

I have many problems after upgrading to ubuntu 11.10. The touchpad no longer works. I need to use a mouse to move the pointer. The sound menu is missing from the top bar. Evolution mail is disabled. There are other problems, but these are the most important. Please help.

My computer is a Dell inspiron 1420. The touchpad problem has been fixed after rebooting but the other problems still
exist.

ok the module driving it is psmouse. Try running:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf

add this line:

options psmouse proto=imps

Save the new file then run:

sudo modprobe -r psmouse; sleep 2; sudo modprobe psmouse

Then try the touchpad
