Trackpad and Its Mouse Stop Working After Login

Asked by cmnorton

My Thinkpad T61P is running Ubuntu 10.04. Before logging in, the trackpad and its mouse work. After logging in, they stop working, but the little red-button mouse above the 'B' key and its mouse keys work. What settings should I be checking? What could be causing this?

What can I run and attach to this question that might help answer this question?

Thanks.

Try pressing ALT+F2 and run:

gconftool-2 --set --type boolean /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true

Does it help?

Yes it does help. Thank you.

Is that permanent? If not, how can I make it permanent?

Also, if it helps this question for anyone else. A new account does not have this problem. That is if I create a new user, touchpad and its mouse keys don't go away.

Thank you again.
