Keyboard letters stops responding - ThinkPad T60 running Ubuntu 11.10

Asked by amirh

Hi,
I've installed Ubuntu 11.10 on a ThinkPad T60,
it happens (around every hour) that the keyboard letters just stop responding, switching languages (keyboard layout) a few times usually makes it come back, sometimes switching workspace (Alt+Ctrl Right\Left) also makes it come back.

I got the problem both with Unity and with Gnome Shell.
The computer was previously running Fedora with Gnome 3 without having this problem.

Will appreciate any help.

If you create a new user and log in there, is it the same?

Yep, I just created a new user, logged in with it, and got the same problem.

I suggest you report a bug then

Some more details I found out - what happens is that for some reason the alt key gets "stuck" - I've installed a utility that reports all key presses (screenkey) and while experiencing the problem hitting any key let's say x was reported as Alt-x.

I'm pretty sure that this is not an hardware problem as I'm not having this problem on the same machine when running Windows, and I didn't have this problem with the previous Linux distribution that was installed on this machine (Fedora).

Is your suggestion still to report a bug?

Many thanks for your help!

Yes as your new user will have vanilla settings, so your customisations in your users profile are not causing the issue.

Can you help with this problem?
