Microsoft Digital Keyboard: delete and function keys messed up

Asked by Tom Tervoort

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 with a "Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 3000" and have the following problems:

- Delete does not work but instead acts as F10 (this is incredibly annoying, since I use Delete a lot).
- None of the function keys appear to work. When running xev, they do appear to generate events, with the exception of F10: which does absolutely nothing.

Interestingly, some of the 'special keys', like the volume buttons and even the calculator or 'home page' button, work properly. So does Num Lock and everything else apparently.

These problems do not occur on Windows 7, so this is not a hardware issue.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be? Is there an alternative driver I can install? I Googled around a bit but was not able to find someone with the same problem.

Anyway, please tell if anyone has got an idea what might be the cause of this. Thanks in advance.

I recently updated to Oneiric Ocelot (Ubuntu 11.10) and now the delete function works properly again. All of the F-keys however, still don't work.

The problem is solved. It turns out I had to reboot into my Windows partition, press the 'F-lock' key there and reboot again.
