Well, if you are having problems with your space bar in a vista os, you can use the on screen keyboard option. You'll have to click the on-screen space bar when you need to space out words.

1) Go to the start menu

2) Click the "Help and Support" screen and type "screen keyboard" in search box

3) Select "Type without using the keyboard (On-Screen Keyboard)" option

4) You should see a link to open up the on-screen keyboard. Click that link.

Now you should have the option to type freely with your keyboard and click away at the space bar on-screen.

I've no clue on linux platforms.

Hi VerucaA

If you go to the preferences-keyboards-...then on the dialogue box there should be a button 'options'....click this and it will bring up a list of various changes to the keyboard key mappings that you can make (e.g. changing the caps lock to escape key). There should be an option in there to change the space key to another key
