Unable to get the OpenChrome 9 driver working with Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V3515

Asked by catrindade

I am the Computer Management Director of the Pangeia University at Lubango, Angola. It's a new University that will open in March 2008. I need to install Ubuntu in 400 notebook machines, model Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V3515, but I am unable to get more than 1024x768 resolution with Vesa driver and the notebook native resolution is 1280x800.

The Graphic Card is an integrated VIA Crhome9 HC IGP.

I tried to install Via OpenChrome 9 HC driver following the procedures I got in http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=45&CatID=3220&SubCatID=185 and apparently succeeded.

Nevertheless, when I tried to change the "vesa" driver, in the xorg.conf file, with the "via" driver it didn't work at all. It changed to a fail safe resolution.

Anyone can point me out the right and complete procedure that will work? I don't know what else to do.

Thanks very much, in advance, for any help.

Catrindade,

You may want to have a look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenChrome

Also, what version of Ubuntu are you using?

Hi!

I already tried to run throught the procedures in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenChrome but I always got stuck with the execution of the first command line

sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-via

At the moment the system says "The dependency of Build-Depends by xserver-xorg-video-via cannot be satisfied, because there is no version of package debhelper available to satisfy the needs of version".

My version of Ubuntu is 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon.

Thank you!

Best Regards

Make sure that you have all of your current updates, and that you are connected to the internet. debhelper is in the repositories so there shouldn't be an issue with that.

I managed to solve the problem.

Simply change all the xorg.conf original file configuration with a new set of parameters listed bellow.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# xorg.conf (Xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following commands as root:
#
# cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.custom
# md5sum /etc/X11/xorg.conf >/var/lib/xfree86/xorg.conf.md5sum
# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
