cannot enable visual effect

I'm using a laptop with a mainboard SIS a*note, I am using UBUNTU 10.4 LTS Lucid and my VGA is SIS MIRAGE 3. problem is, I can not enable visual effects on the menu "visual effects", always appear "searching for availabel driver" and then "Could not enable visual effects"
ubuntu team please help .

SIS don't have much 3D support inLinux which you NEED to get effects.

I'll have a look but I don't expect we'll find much. Can you give the output of:

sudo lshw -C display

As actionparnship stated above, your driver stated in the description field doesn't support 3d acceleration so you are unable to get the compiz effects, there are other alternatives however, but I recommend that a plain Ubuntu is actually pretty good as well :) oh and if you still want visual effects, try something called xcompmgr its light weight and it might just work on your system.

Will be fine in any release (Although I wouldn't recommend Maverick due to your clear newness with Linux).
