Savage XGL problem

Asked by envykrisw

I am trying to configure Compiz fusion in Feisty on Thinkpad T21 with the following VGA card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. 86C270-294 Savage/IX-MV (rev 11)

glxinfo |grep direct
direct rendering: Yes

even though i have enabled DRI and xgl, i still get the following error while launching Compiz:
 ----------:~$ compiz --replace
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: not present.
Trying again with indirect rendering:
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present.
Checking for non power of two support: Not present.
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity
Window manager warning: "" found in configuration database is not a valid value for keybinding "toggle_shaded"

No desktop effects get enabled.
Can someone help me on this?
cheers

I'm sorry for you, I have the same problem but with another chip, a VIA/S3 chip..
The drivers for this kind of chips don't have a suppor for this extension of OpenGL, so there is no way to install Compiz in there... No one...
Sorry for you (and for me :)

@ Julian...
I kinda figured...but got a bit greedy when i was able to successfully enable DRI support. Sad, so i guess even with Gutsy we wont have much luck :-(
