Ubuntu 9.04 S3 VT8375 Problem

Asked by john pike

My system has an onboard video chip an S3 VT8375 (prosavage KM266/KL266) the best resolution i can get is 600 x 800. I have a 1440 x 900 screen 'Envision HW193k'. Prior to the system upgrading to 9.04 the best i could get was 1024 x 768 . now its 600 x 800.
Are there any driver out there for the video at all. Have looked at the xconfg and its the new type no info in there at all.
As a newbee to this system is it best to reload the original 8.04 that worked fine.
Any help would be appreciated

Install openchrome and mesa drivers. Goto synaptic package manager and type openchrome, check it and mesa too. Apply the changes. This could solve your problem. Also remember that VIA company does not support the linux community. So the graphic drivers are quite unarmed when coming to desktop effects and some graphic actions and games. Ofcourse your computer have direct rendering.

I tink you must go to Display option in the system menu to change your resolution... Have you done done so? If yes, then i think jaunt lack something that make your video card work...

Hi Yash
Done all that, I am going back to re install 8.04 as that appeared to work better, and as its an older machine that I was trying
to see if I liked Ubuntu it wont be a problem, not going to invest anymoney in a new Vid Card.
For this machine, 8.04 has aproblem with S3 but actually gives you a better resolution from the start without playing
around

Many Thanks
