Can you please provide the output of:

sudo lshw -C display

It works in Windows as you have installed and configured a driver for the device. You havent done this in Ubuntu so you don't get the desired display. The fact it does anything at al in Windows is moot.

Run

gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Can you provide the contents of the file. I plan to combine yours suitably with this post

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=27463

To get you a decent resolution. Don't expect 3D gaming with the card but we can get you a finer screen resolution.

ok.

run:

gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and change the line:

Modes "800x600"

to

Modes "1024x768"

Save the new file and reboot. Done

I'm waiting for your reply. Please help me and one more thing I want
to inform you that my trio64v2 video card gives 1024 x 768 resolution
in PCLinux with 16 bit.

Do you have any other idea to copy the configuration file of PCLinux to Ubuntu.

Or there is any other way to use windows driver in Ubuntu.

Please reply me soon.

If you boot PCLinux and read the xorg.conf file there you should get an idea of what you need in Ubuntu as they are both the same OS (Linux) just a different distribution.

I had done as you advised and now I got 1024 x 768 screen resolution
but now the screen was very stucky and slow and I can't even see movie
clips as older. Can you give me any other idea

I had submitted the xorg.conf in PCLinux :

to

Section "Device"

    Driver "s3"

I then changed driver "vesa" to "s3" and monitor depth " HorizSync 31.5-48.5
VertRefresh 50-70" to "30 -55 , "50- 120" as for my Samsung Samtron 55v.It was working than before. But itself now I cant get as amuch as Windows that I had installed the driver.

My only problem is to see a movie clip in fullscreen(It is now somewhat better )

Could you tell me an idea to install windows driver package in ubuntu. If you, it would be very helpful for me.

I'm waiting for your reply

Windows drivers are for windows. Linux isn't windows so the driver for windows will not work.

Not sure. Maybe the driver/card combo under Linux just doesn't cut it.

>Can you tell me how I can see movies in full Screen with clear

With the present s3 driver you can, but only those movies that fit the offscreen area. Please, read the manual ('man s3' command), the section about overlay video. This section is about hardware upscaling. If you have fast PC, you can use software upscaling. To check the presence of overlay video support type 'xvinfo' in terminal.

If you have 2Mb on-board and set up 800x600 resolution with 24-bit color (32bpp fb), S3 hardware could upscale the movies with resolution about 320x240. Calculation are simple: 2Mb - (800*600*4 color bytes per pixel) = 173KB of offscreen area. And for frame: 320*240*2 bytes = 150 KB; so movie frame fits offscreen.

Can you help with this problem?
