NVidia GS 8400

Asked by Balakrishna

Mine is xp and Ubuntu 9.04 dual boot. I have installed NVidia gs 8400 [512mb] graphic card. In xp, I have installed the driver and it works smoothly. For Ubuntu, I tried-Synaptic Manager > nvidia-glx-173 > install: In error page it says" E:could not get lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock-open[11 resource temporarily unavailable]
E: unable to lock the download directory "
I even tried to enable nvidia from control panel . Hardware drivers. No use.
 Please help.

sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock;sudo dpkg --configure -a

You should also use the 185 driver or the experimental 190 driver from this repo:

Hello Actionparsnip- I tried in terminal-no use. But 'adding PPA to your system' looks helpful: Under technical details about ppa, I added both links to my "software sources". Then I tried again-whilst downloading, it asked 'Karmic Koala-9.10 to insert;I have to burn the iso image and will try again.I will post the result tomorrow. Thanks.
