unable to install nVidia graphics drivers for MX4000

Asked by Rajinder Sandhu

I am using ubuntu 9.04 and unable to install drivers for MX4000 graphics card. The latest file version is NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.13-pkg1.run when I try to install it is asking you have to go to run level 3.... whereas as an administrator why we need to go to RL3... then how to go there ? even if i skip one step and proceed for installation the nvidia screen opens half in size and you can not change any settings and if at all that you make it then computer hangs up. Neither goes to command mode nor mouse or kb is working. when we keep skipping one of the step then it says kernel is ... sort of not compatible... any clue what is happening...this problem i am facing right from the beginning.
Kernel 2.6.28-15-generic
Gnome 2.26.1
Release ubuntu 9.04
Please help...
Thanks in advance
