Login screen or splash sreen does not appear on Ubuntu 9.10 beta (Nvidia problem)

Asked by quinhoflu

I just installed the Ubuntu 9.10 Beta.
The live CD worked perfectly.
But, after installation, the splash screen and the login screen do not appear.
I have to log in at the terminal and, when I type "startx", some error messages are shown:
----
(EE) Failed to load module nvidia (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) No drivers available

Fatal server error:
no screens found
----

My Desktop specifications are:
Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB DDR2
500GB HD SATA
Nvidia Gforce 9400 GT.

Please be sure your system is fully updated/upgraded because it is a beta and there are a lot of daily changes and might be some upgrade can dress your issue.

From terminal instead of startx please type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo reboot
