Attempting update of Nvidia driver, must run as root

Asked by Robert Brennan

I am a novice at Ubuntu. I downloaded a new video driver from NVidia and it is a binary file which must be run as "root". I went into terminal, CD /Downloads to find file, and did. I entered the command "sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.29.run", it extracts the file, verifies, then stops, saying it must be run as root.

Please help by providing as explicit directions as possible. Help topics did not give an answer. I did change my User to administrator in setup users.

Any help would be appreciated.
