help for hardware drivers

this driver is activated but not currently in use
See /usr/share/doc/nvidia-current/README.txt.gz for a complete listof supported GPUs and PCIIDs
all that in additional drivers
1- i use ubuntu 10.10
2- one time i removed nvadia driver at wrong
so in my list of additional drivers i have
nvidia_current
software modem
please help
always when i reboot my system i need to configure my resolution at new

after you install the hardware drivers for nvidia use the nvidia x server to set and save .

Try from terminal Applications→ Accessories → Terminal:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get --reinstall --purge reinstall nvidia-current
sudo reboot

the system ask you a password give your user password, you will not see nothing when you type it, then press enter

after i do the sudo apt-get --reinstall --purge reinstall nvidia-current
he give me that answer E: Invalid operation reinstall

Sotty my typo, the command is:

my freind is the same problem when i reboot i make the two times the resolution back the same is back to 800x600 but i need and configure to 1280x800
also i go to additional drivers in the active wrote this driver is activated but not currently in use

Can you give us the result of this terminal command:

lspci | grep -i vga

and

lsb_release -rd

go to system = preference = monitor = a window will pop up click no then on the next window set the resolutions apply - when the next window shows up keep this setting and close .

when i go to the monitor i have that massege
it apears that your graphics driver does not support the necessary extensions to use this tool do you want to use your graphics driver vendor's tool instead?
