"./default_policy.sh does not support version" error when installing ATI driver

Asked by Einsamkeit

A previous problem led me to install the newest version of the ATI drivers for my Radeon x1600.
I downloaded the driver, ran it via terminal and, after passing the integrity check and decompression, I was returned this:

==================================================
 ATI Technologies Linux Driver Installer/Packager
==================================================

Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version
default:v2:i686:lib::none:2.6.31-16-generic-pae; make sure that the version is being
correctly set by --iscurrentdistro

Any ideas on how to fix this and install the driver??
