Asked by empr

I am running the following script:

sudo sh ./ati-driver-installer-9-11-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/karmic

...and getting the following error message:

Error: Distro Version entered incorrectly or not supported, use --listpkg to identify valid distro versions

Can someone help?

The xorg.conf modifications mentioned at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver seem to interfere with my computer. All the drivers are installed properly, but my video card was essentially not operational with the most basic settings outlined. Also, I am unable to use my 24" HD LCD with the current configurations. How can I make the resolution 1900X1080 on an external LCD?

Hi empr: I can post (or email) you an xorg.conf that works for me. It's minimal in order to allow the new X system to do as much as possible. Unfortunately it is set for dual monitors, but the modifications are trivial. On my system the driver for the chip set didn't include the higher resolutions, but I forced it in the xorg.conf and it accepted that. In addition I had a blocky cursor but that also allowed an override in the xorg.conf. Karmic, X86_64. Never got gears to work on this system; but I only hassle it once a month or so. Perhaps I will try the suggestion in the link to get gears to work (after a while).

The xorg in karmic is too new so is not supported by the driver yet. You can run jaunty and get full support from the driver. You could install the older xorg but I have no experience of this so cannot advise on its sucess or even if it is ACTUALLY possible.

Can you help with this problem?
