Slow graphics and no HDMI sound output with ati driver

Asked by Jon Miller

When I install the ATI driver found in "hardware drivers" for Ubuntu 10.04 the screen gets a window all the way around, the graphics are slow(menus take a long time to show if at all), pc freezes everytime I try to go into the control center of the driver, and for the HDMI tv out I have no sound. No problems in the BIOS screens. Running an ASUS motherboard with integrated Radeon hd 4250 and an AMD Phenom II black edition quad cpu. I have already contacted ASUS support about the TV out issues I have been having. Determined that its not the mobo. Looking for a simple solution or proper driver to use.

The default driver doesn`t have TV out support for me. TV says" not supported mode ".

The default Ubuntu driver for Radeon HD4250 (the open source one written from scratch using ATI/AMD hardware specs) has very good 2D and video acceleration (in fact better then ATI privative driver) and quite good and improving 3D support.
Look and the R600/700 column in this page

So I suggest you uninstall the ati driver completely and keep the default driver which is very good and has TV out support.

Can you help with this problem?
