Problems displaying 1920x1080 on dell st2410 monitor

Installed 10.04 (did not upgrade) on this machine using a different monitor (1680 x 1050 res), but upgraded a few weeks back
PC has a ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro video card and downloaded the control center for it too.
I can't make the resolution to be 1920x1080 despite the fact that I have the correct driver installed for the VC.
The settings wont let me go pass 1600x1200.
I have kept ubuntu updated. Don't know a lot about configuring it any other way x-org

You don't seem to be the only one having this problem, so maybe it's not a setting problem but a real bug ?
