Error during CMS Conversion: Could not open scanner ICM Profile.

Asked by Melinda

First of all I use Ubuntu 8.4, have a HP Deskjet F4235 All-in-one printer that I'm having trouble with. Every time I attempt to scan something with Xsane I get this error message Error during CMS Conversion: Could not open scanner ICM Profile. I've tired other scanning programs, my scanner works fine. But I prefer to use XSane. So hopefully I can get it running properly.

2 things

1. Have you tried unchecking Preferences/enable color management on the menu?
2. If that does not work at the terminal type:

rm ~/.sane/xsane/*.drc

that will kill your configuration. Then restart xsane.

The problem is still there?

Cheers

I tried unchecking Preferences/enable color management now it seems to be scanning okay. It looks like this solved my problem. Thanks! Bye!

The 'rm ~/.sane/xsane/*.drc' solution given above worked for me.

Can you believe it? The issue of the ancient missing Preview window dating back to pre-2010's it is alive and still frustrating XSane users in 2023! One given solution is to uncheck color management, but was not a fool-prove solution for me in Ubuntu 22.04. In my case I partially solve it by doing the "rm ~/.sane/xsane/*.drc", but on the second time using XSane, the Preview was gone again! I then open the ~/.sane/xsane/*.drc file (in my case "CANON:Canoscan9000FMarkII.drc" in the "~/.sane/xsane/" directory. I found the line "xsane-show-preview" (with the quotes). Below is a 0. Change it to 1. I saved the file and restart and the Preview window is back at last! Do not close the Preview before you shutdown the app, else the 1 will reset to 0 again. Hopes this work for you! (Another solution is maybe to get the full fledged VueScan scanner app at a relative modest fee ;=).
NS: Maybe the XSane developers should try again to fix this ancient issue. Regards.
