[dell 910] add scanner

Asked by Robert Trabosh

I have a dell 910 which is a printer scanner combo, I don't use the printer but I would like to use the scanner. Any suggestion would be gratefully appreciated by this week old user of Ubuntu.

Thanks
BOB

Without knowing the exact modell, we can't tell you what to do. So, check if your scanner is on this list

http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-mfgs-cvs.html#Z-DELL

If yes, it should work out of the box with xsane (in the case of ubuntu) or kooka (if you use kubuntu).

You might also search for a driver from the manufacturer if other models are ok in linux. I have an HP all-in-one that didn't scan from supplied software in Ubuntu 9.04 (printer was recognized and it seems like fax software would have worked as it was, but I couldn't use the scanner). After getting an update to hplib (which drives HP printers & scanners), it works just fine.

Can you help with this problem?
