Unable to authenticate to Xrdp on 12.04

Asked by Doug Konrad

When I attempt to connect to my 12.04 machine using xrdp, it fails to connect, indicating login failure.

The auth.log shows:

Jun 13 17:04:36 <hostname> xrdp-sesman: pam_unix(xrdp-sesman:auth): check pass; user unknown
Jun 13 17:04:36 <hostname> xrdp-sesman: pam_unix(xrdp-sesman:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty= ruser= rhost=

I was connecting from Windows7.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Doug

I've determined the problem is caused by using a username that does not appear in /etc/passwd. Doh!

Nothing to see here. Move along.
