Ubuntu is Running in Low-Graphics Mode

Asked by tahirbiyiklioglu

Although I have tried many things proposed in the answers to similar questions,
nothing changed. I could not solve the problem with my Toshiba A200 with Ubuntu 9.10
installed.
But with a little difference, the welcoming screen (top projector light) starts to appear but shortly after
that, a small "tty1" window opens up in the upper left corner while the small "wait olease- whell"
continues turning.
can you help me with it?
thanks - tahir

What did I do last::

After getting "no gdm installed" message thru my struggle,
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
sudo apt-get install gdm
reboot
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
not solved, and tried the following:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia*
sudo apt-get --purge autoremove
sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-96
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(this installed nvidia 96first, automatically upgraded to 180).
rebooted, and this is the final point.
It seems it is about to launch up. But it hangs.
