display is 1200x800 in windows 800x600 max in ubuntu 9.1, how can i change it?

The maximum screen resolution I can get in a new install of ubuntu 9.10 is 800x 600. In windows I can get 1200 or 1600 x 1024. how do i get this now on 9.10?

First check i you have display drivers installed
Go System - Administration - Restricted driver manager
Click Activate (the recommended driver)

To change resolution
Go Applications - Accessories - Terminal
type sudo nvidia-settings
change resolution and save
