xserver question

Asked by audreymac

I booted in safe mode and checked xserver and got the following error, which I checked again in terminal below:

audreymac@audreymac-desktop:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
[sudo] password for audreymac:
xserver-xorg postinst warning: overwriting possibly-customised configuration
file; backup in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.20090820190120H

What exactly CAN I do now?? - I don't know how to accress the file.

You don't say which version you are using.

You don't say if you've never had a picture, or if you have had a picture and it was subsequently lost.

Instead of booting into your normal kernel (top of boot list) try booting into recovery mode (second on boot list). Look for something called , something like, "Try to recover xserver" (You might need to scroll up or down to find it). Have a go at that first.
