Resolution and Graphics Problems

Asked by The Zim

I would like to have a 1280x1024 resolution on my computer, however, I can't get it to work. I have a Nvidia GeForce Graphics Card 9400 series. Can someone please give me a very "dumbed-down" explanation of how to fix this problem? I am currently running an 800x600 resolution and it simply will NOT work, I can't even see half of the windows and I have no room to move them up. Please Help!

Well if you have the nvidia privative drivers installed, you could press "alt + F2" and type in "gksu nvidia-settings" (with no quotes) the gksu command is so that the nvidia settings manager is able to write the xorg file so it will ask you for your password.

Ok.... Well, I got on my computer this morning and suddenly I could choose up to 1024x786 (before I could only choose 800x600 or 640x480. I don't know why I could suddenly do that, but I could. I did what you said, and I was able to get to my 1280x1024 resolution that I wanted. Thanks a lot!
