Login problem on Ubuntu

Asked by Eray Küçükçay

Hey there.. I have some problems on my Intel-MacBook.(Ubuntu installed)

Today, I decided to change my theme and some graphical standarts on Ubuntu, after change it, suddenly the screen freezed and I saw some colors on my screen, than it got back to the login screen. After that, I couldn't access to my Desktop whatever I tried for it.
I re-installed
I thought maybe it was because of kdm, so I entered to Failsafe Terminal and installed xdm. Now I also can't access to the Terminal because xdm login interface don't allow to choose the Terminal. Actually, I really don't know what to do, how can I solve this problem?

(I tried alt+ctrl+f1 or f2 for it but I couldn't access to Terminal.)

Thanks.

Hello,
Boot into Ubuntu with recovery mode. Drop into shell (do not normally start X window). Type:

login

and login with your user account on the shell. Then use command:

startx

If X window does not start, it will give you the error message about why it doesn't start. If your problem is due to a xorg.conf error, use this command to turn your xorg.conf into default:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Then try to startx again.

Kolay gelsin.

Sorry, the command to turn your xorg.conf to default is:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

The other command is for manually configuring xorg.conf file.

Also, if you want to choose kdm instead of xdm again, use:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm

and choose kdm.
