Somewhere in Preferences or Administration there should be entries about Display settings. Try to adjusting Gamma values there.
Regarding Bhavani's comment, the correct command would be:
xgamma -gamma 1.1
, but I'm not sure whether that setting is persistent after a reboot.

If you have the nvidia drivers installed, you should run nvidia-settings instead, and adjust the Gamma in section "X Server Color Correction".

Can you help with this problem?
