extent the desktop

I have the video card hooked to the TV through an S-video cable and I would like to now how to extent the desktop to watch movies from the harddrive on the TV?
I have a ATI Radeon X3100 Video card.

Do you have the drivers for your ATI Radeon X3100 Card installed? What version of Ubuntu are you running? You usually have to use the video control panel to extend your desktop, or your video driver's control panel.

Remember "MergedFB" is the preferred method that works for ATI cards. TwinView works for NVidia cards.

Did you also use "MergedFB" in the end and not "TwinView?" I always use TwinView just because it always works for NVidia.

I've personally never used an ATI card & Linux. I guess you can say I'm an NVidia Man. Just asking for my own good measure in the future with ATIers ;-)
