Pink Screen Showed Up

Asked by sgtdave423

I have a Dell Inspiron 910 that had Ubuntu on it when I got it. I have never used Ubuntu before. I did some updates a couple of days ago and since that time the computer opens to a pink screen and does nothing else. The 910 has no CD Drive or anything, but i could use a flash drive if needed. Can anyone help?

This thread on the (currently inaccessible?) Ubuntuforums seems to have a few suggestions: http://209.85.129.132/search?q=cache:WGz-ffl27-gJ:ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php%3Ft%3D505415+pink+screen+ubuntu&cd=2&hl=de&ct=clnk&gl=de&client=opera

You can try:
- restarting gdm by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Backspace (apparently this worked for some people)
- if it doesn't, go to a tty with Ctrl+Alt+F1, log in, enter "sudo apt-get update", confirm with your password, and after that "sudo apt-get upgrade", then reboot.

Additionally please do this:

- Press CTRL+ALT+F1
- make login with your user and password,
give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

- Then type:

sudo apt-get update

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Then type:

sudo apt-get --reinstall install ubuntu-desktop

sudo reboot

Hope this helps
