Intrepid starts up, instead of logon screen produces white screen with black bars

Asked by lag

I installed 8.10 on my asus f8sp-x1 (radeon 3650 1gb) and it boots fine, but instead of giving me a login screen it produces a white screen with random black lines across it. I have tried dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg as root from the recovery menu at someone on IRC's suggestion to no avail. I had a previous version (dapper, maybe?) installed a while back and I never had this issue.
Thanks all!

dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg, was suggested by me as it should reconfigure the options for display, but that didn't work.

I tried switching the drive from "radeon" to "vesa" to no avail. I've linked the xorg log (using vesa)

I too get black and white bars when I boot into Linux in 2010-11. Can you give me detailed instructions?
