External monitor

I'm running Ubuntu Desktop 8.04 on HP pavilion dv5 Laptop, and my VGA card is Nivida
I have enabled the restricted driver manager or the hardware driver tool provided by ubuntu from System->administration->Hardwares drivers.
and i re-installed the package nvidia-glx-new.

when i run this command "lspci" the output is:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Unknown device 0649 (rev a1)

i need to enable the external monitor, and to be dedicated automatic in restart! how do i?
does any one faced this problem before?

nvidia-settings is a graphical tool which can be used with nvidia cards to manage displays.

Install the package "nvidia-settings" and it will provide a program of the same name.
