I cannot change monitor resolution en kubuntu or ubuntu from 640/480

Just purchasd a new HP Pavilion a1300la computer and I cannot install any linux distribution except kubuntu and with this I can not change the monitor resolution from 640/480. With this I cannot have access to click the NEXT button. How can I make this change?

from the command like can you do this:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Most of the default settings should work for you. On one part of the setup, you will be asked on the support of the resolution of your display. You can choose the settings that you see fit and just add them during setup. After configuring xserver-xorg, you can do ctrl+alt+backspace to restart the xserver and you should be able to select your proper settings. Hope this helps.
