ATI Radeon HD3470 compatibility

Asked by Daniel

I'm planning to buy a Vaio SR series with ATI Radeon HD3470. I would like to know if there is a compatibility problem for Ibex 8.10 with this video card. I've read some comments about problems with the new X.Org in Ibex and the Radeon video cards, but I would like to have some real feedback based on facts.

Thanks,

Daniel

On October 2nd Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10beta was released and there were no ATI drivers which supported the new X.Org 7.4. When I first installed I did not have direct 3D rendering. On October 15th ATI released ATI Catalyst™ 8.10 Proprietary Linux x86 Display Driver were released. The restricted drivers were automatically installed during update the following day. I was actually a little surprised how quickly they were made available. Probably because of all the comments that were made about it.

Since your card is supported, you should not have any compatibility problems.

Hope this helps

Hi Daniel,

I have the same video card of you, and during the 8.10 installation I had this error:

Radeon(0): No valid linear framebuffer address
Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Can you help with this problem?
