Ubuntu 14.04 LTS screen freezes

Asked by Sil

Hi all,

When I used Ubuntu 12.04 I did not have any issues. When I upgraded to 14.04 LTS my screen/desktop freezes almost instantly after logging in. I can sometimes move the mouse pointer and sometimes not. I can ssh to the device and that works fine. Can you please help me to try to find a solution for this. I get this also with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I use a Dell Laptop.

Can you please tell me what extra info I need to provide in order to resolve this issue.

Thank you in advance!

If you use a non-compoziting session like XFCE or LXDE, is it OK?

Just install LXDE, you can do this by pressing CTRL + ALT + F1

Log in there and run:

sudo apt-get install lxde
sudo reboot

Change your session to LXDE at the login page then log in.

Is it OK?
