X server using 80-95% of Quad Core on Alpha6

Asked by malfist

I just updated to Alpha6 from 8.04 and the X server is extremely laggy. On checking htop I see that X is taking 85-95% of my CPU, which is a quadcore. I'm glad X is multithreaded, but it shouldn't be using so much CPU that my typing is lagging.

Hardware:
GeForce 6800
AMD 9850 Black Edition (quad-core 2.5GHz per core)
4GB RAM
C-Media 5.1 Sound Card

Software:
Graphics drivers installed using envy
Previously used integrated graphics for a few hours, could not install drivers (ATI) for integrated.
Ubuntu Alpha6
Compiz Fusion is disabled.

Primary cause is facebook.com, I got a reading of 103% CPU usage (?) when visiting there. However, Xorg still uses far more resources than it should.

So please using Firefox try to install adblock extension to block unwanted flash https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10

Thank you

Disabling flash reduced CPU usage, however, X still uses more than one full core when browsing.
