Making S3 ProSavageDDR work in Ubuntu

Asked by Samuel R.A.

Ubuntu won't let me choose any screen resolution other than 640x480. I think the problem is that it doesn't recognize the graphics controler, an S3 ProSavageDDR. I've been looking for Linux drivers but I only find Windows ones. Could anyone point me to Linux/Ubuntu drivers or tell me some other way of solving the problem? Please keep in mind that this is my first time trying an O.S. other than Windows. Thanks in advance.

This is a big problem in my opinion, and you're not alone.

Here's people trying to sort it out: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SimpleXModeSelection

And here is some guidance to help you: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FixVideoResolutionHowto

I hope it helps,

Thank you so much! I was able to solve it simply by running the autodetect script again. Now I can finally enjoy Ubuntu. :)
