Lost video after 05/02/2008 Kernel update push

Asked by Marco

Hello,

I have an nvidia video card and the driver was installed using the script released by Envy (https://launchpad.net/envy). Everything worked fine until this morning when a kernel update was pushed through the auto update utility. At the end of the reboot sequence I get a quick message that some folder relating to \video\ cannot be accessed before the video goes totally blank...

It looks like the install script for the kernel update is stopping or at least having trouble dealing with my nvidia driver

Can someone help me get my system and video working again :-)

Best regards,

Marco

I should mention that I tried to start gnome manually from the recovery console using sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start and it fails to start.

Can anyone direct me how to revert to the Ubuntu default video driver from the recovery console?

Thanks.

Marco

Solution to the video issue was found on the Envy video NVIDIA/ATI driver installation script web page :

http://albertomilone.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.Envy-InstructionsForUbuntu

Item F describes the procedure to revive the video driver

Many thanks to Alberto Milone for his support.
