Intel video card on HP EliteBook 6930p needs driver

Asked by Strsljen

Hi!

In order to run OpenGL apps (like google earth) smoothly, I need a proper driver for my video card.

Here is what I see in ubuntu regarding video card model:
~# lshw -C display
  *-display:0
       description: VGA compatible controller
product: Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller
       vendor: Intel Corporation
       physical id: 2
       bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0
       version: 07
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
       configuration: driver=i915 latency=0
       resources: irq:47 memory:90000000-903fffff memory:80000000-8fffffff ioport:7138(size=8)
  *-display:1 UNCLAIMED
       description: Display controller
product: Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller
       vendor: Intel Corporation
       physical id: 2.1
       bus info: pci@0000:00:02.1
       version: 07
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list
       configuration: latency=0
       resources: memory:90400000-904fffff

# lspci |grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

Now, I can run 2D apps normally, but when it comes to OpenGL, they run with poor performance.

System -> Details -> Graphics states:
Driver: unknown
Experience: Standard

I tried to find a proper driver on HP and Intel sites, but no luck.

Any help is more than welcomed.

Thnx!

Best regards,

You may need an xorg.conf file to get better performance. The system is using the correct video driver. There is an app for installing Intel drivers and the omgubuntu guys gave a page to it.
