1. Is this a new install or was this working before?
2. Are you in the process of installing it or is already installed?
3. What version of Ubuntu do you have and is it the Desktop or Server edition?
4. What's the exact model number of your computer?
The most common reason for no GUI on a new install is that you have installed the Server version. The Server edition does not come with a GUI by default but you can add one. If you have mistakenly installed the server edition then I would reinstall the Desktop version.
If I have guessed wrong give us the answers to questions at the top and we will try to help more.
Did you install desktop or server?
Can you help with this problem?
Provide an answer of your own, or ask David K Martin for more information if necessary.
