How to get Monoprice 6814 Drawing Tablet to Work in 12.04 LTS?

Asked by Christopher M. Balz

Looking to get started getting this drawing tablet working, for example, to draw on GIMP: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/GraphicsTablet/Monoprice%206814

My system is up-to-date and I rebooted with the drawing tablet plugged in. Currently, the tablet shows up under `lsusb` as:

   Bus 003 Device 004: ID 5543:0781 UC-Logic Technology Corp.

On the tablet itself, the blue indicator light lights up when the pen is brought to the drawing surface. On a web browser (Chromium, in this case), pressing the pen down on the drawing surface will cause the browser to go back.

However, there is no other responsiveness or indication on the computer itself that there is a drawing tablet connected.

Thanks much. I guess for LTS releases, such as I need, no luck until the next LTS? Or is there a backport available for 12.04 LTS?

Can you help with this problem?
