Unity 12.04 no files or folders on desktop

Upgrade.. to 12.04 no files or folder icons show on the desktop... ??? They did at first. Using Xubuntu xfce and they the icons show. ?? thanks

ls ~/Desktop

Do you see the files?

Right click desktop -> properties -> Icons

Is there anything there?

Right click nothing... been working on this problem for several weeks. their should be a menu

In Unity of you press ALT+F2 and run:

nautilus -q

Do they then load after a short while.

No just did that again ... tried it before and nothing happened ... Just realized dash board run commands that you would do in a terminal... and thks in advance for you help... I researched nautilus.. as the source of the problem.. but got no were ... I go to Places... and about tells me I am runing Nautilus 3.4.2

I go to terminal ctrl Alt t and i get this:
carl@carl-laptop:~$ nautilus -q

Try to reinstall/install

sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install
sudo apt-get --reinstall install libatk-adaptor

No this did not work ... sorry could not get back to you in time... Now I have a different problem the update is refusing to work.. its broken.. trying to install yahoo ypops .. and the update broke... geee ...

Please make a new question for the new issue.

You could try using ubuntu-tweak to set the desktop to not draw icons, reboot, then tell the system to again, draw desktop icons.

the "ubuntu-tweak" disappeared ... tweak-tool appeared and it crashes ... should I load ... ubuntu-tweak ... loved it..

Load ubuntu-tweek ... reset sysem desktop... will try to tell is not to draw and then to draw.
