Freezing on Disk Bootup

Asked by Joseph Rios

Tried both ISO to DVD+R and USB Key options. Upon booting to the menu of "Try Ubuntu or Install" the screen freezes then comes to a console page where it displays GPU Lockup, from there I cannot continue to try or install at all.

Image 1: Upon loading to selection menu, either letting it sit for 30 seconds or select one of the options results to Image 2:

Image 2: Result = Frozen, cannot do anything.

You have a dual GPU system. Your i5-2500 has an Intel GPU and you have an Nvidia GPU too. This causes a lot of issues in Linux. If you have the option to disable the onboard video then do so.

Did you not do a little research before you built the system?

The i5-2500 Intel onboard GPU has been disabled since I setup the system.

Try the boot option:

nouveau.blacklist=1

And it should help. You will need this once you get installed and you can then install the proprietary driver.

Buying a CPU with an inbuilt CPU then buying an Nvidia or ATi GPU is a bad idea if you intend to use anything but Windows.

Can you help with this problem?
